Playstation 3 owners, this is the game you've been waiting for. All the money you spent on a sleek black box that plays your FPS's and... yup, that's pretty much it, will finally go towards a a game that will finally take advantage of the Playstation network. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you LittleBIGPlanet.
Revolutionizing online collaborative play, LBP can only be described as a massively multiplayer online cooperative game. Games like Halo 3 and GTA4 caused the XBOX Live network to go down (taking the website with it) because of the unprecedented online traffic. I believe LBP will be the PS3's first chance to test their network's infrastructure.
I had access to the beta for a few days and this is what I saw. There is a local narrative campaign that is mostly an instructional tutorial that includes a delightful narrator who reminds me of the voice from the recent Hitchhiker's film. It was limited and didn't let me go far, but the main goal is to collect candy-like things and additional items to use on your character and the environments. It's entirely a platform "from point A to point B" game, so gameplay is very straightforward. The online portion allows you to experience other players' creations, including riding a powered skateboard past a bunch of musical sensors that play "Sweet Child of Mine".
If you own a PS3, this is the game that will make your ownership complete. Send me a message and we can ragdoll around.

I've just been notified that LittleBIGPlanet has been delayed/recalled due to a soundtrack issue that includes some controversial passages from the Qu'ran. I am not offended by any scripture, but I do mind recalling an online game that was en route to retailers for a Tuesday release when Sony could have just forced a patch that removed the track from the game. Bravo.
Gamespot has the story.

I'm not sure anymore. Best Buy just sent me a notice that LBP has been delayed until New Years. Amazon says November 4. If it doesn't come out in two weeks, I'm cancelling my order.

By the way, LBP was officially released on October 28th, but apparently there was no large retail hoopla for it. Probably because they didn't know it was coming out, which means customers don't know it was coming out. In fact, Best Buy is still somewhat confused. The product page has sine reappeared as "in stock", but as a different SKU. My pre-order with them as the original SKU was delayed twice, in store, out of stock, in store, out of stock and finally, sujbect to cancellation since they can't find the product and I haven't contacted them (which I won't). Best Buy sucks. I love buying things from them and I definitely get my money's worth with my Reward Silver membership, but as a company, they are dumb. Just check out the Consumerist's many articles about them.
Regardless of how I feel about Best Buy, they are selling LBP as well as Amazon and every other retailer, but I'll be holding off for a while until I buy a game period.
