I wasn't quite sure what to expect when first going into this Norwegian zombie film. I definitely wasn't expecting much from this group of indie filmmakers. From the first time I saw this film's trailer I knew it was going to be pretty epic as far as zombie films go, but you cant quite tell what direction the creators were going to take with it. Were they going to take a more comedy angle like Shaun of the Dead or a serious tone like the Romero films (Dawn of the Dead)? Well, I can definitively say they choose to go down both roads at once, and with great risk. Despite such a risky decision however, they were able to really pull it off quite well.
This definitely overall feels like a comedy. Gore lovers will take plenty of enjoyment in this film, along with long-time zombie fans. I would highly recommend checking out the trailer at http://www.deadsnow.com. While the trailer doesn't exactly tell you what to expect, it will however prepare you a bit and give you a general idea of whats ahead.
Overall I really loved this film and is definitely going on my short list of favorite zombie flicks, right up there with Shawn of the Dead. Actually, a lot of this film kind of feels like Shawn of the Dead, but this didn't detract from the film at all for me. I guess I must mention that I love zombie films. I'll watch any movie involving zombies once. They don't necessarily need to be good for me to give it a chance, but it at least needs to be enjoyable to have any reply value for me, and Dod Sno has tons. For people who enjoyed Shawn of the Dead, this is a must see. For people who love this odd horror genre, I'd definitely give it a chance. The comedy in this film isn't to dominant over the film and I would say this is one of the better zombie releases this year (for the USA anyway).
